Why Job Stress Can Ultimately Lead To The End Of Your Job
While all of us go through some type of stress at work, it's odd that 20 percent of people report that the stress has nothing to do with the kind of job they do. The stress comes from their supervisor, the environment, or co-workers. All these stress factors have no really to do with the job.
Stress while it seems of overwhelming and like it's a life sized problem can be fix with a few simple techniques.
Making the Best of a Stressful Workspace
1. Many offices these days use the cubicle format because it makes the most efficient use of space. However, these setups can be quite distracting especially if your cubicle neighbors keep walking around or talking to each other over the dividers. There is obviously nothing you can do to change this setting. Instead you can just arrange your own cubicle to create as much privacy as possible and make it more conducive to work.
2. In times of great stress, keep a picture on your desk that you can take a look at for a few minutes. Let your mind relax, and become calm again. Then return to work.
3. Keep an organized schedule of daily tasks. Keep the priorities at the top of your list so they get done first. Knowing what needs to get done in what amount of time helps keeps you from getting stressed out and you don't have to try and remember everything while doing other tasks.
4. There are few mediation techniques you can practice at work to relieve stress. When you are experiencing stress take a minute and close your eyes. Relax your body, and imagine something that brings your peace. Maybe you can picture your favorite vacation spot or if you like rain a rainy day. While you do this take deep breathes and forget everything that stresses you. After about 5-10 minutes you should feel ready to work again.
5. Find other opportunities. There are a few instances when the stress levels in the workplace are just too high, and if this is the case in your office, it may be time to search for better environments where you can be more productive. Unreasonably demanding jobs and bosses who are very difficult to deal with can certainly cause you to be stressed out, and it's absolutely not your fault. In fact, if you stay in such environments, not only will the quality of your work be compromised, but you might be susceptible to suffering emotional distress as well. You might be tempted to hang in there for a while, especially during these economically tough times. But we do recommend that you look for better jobs where you will be subject to less stress.
You do have to keep in mind that employment is not that easy to find these days, so you should do your best to work well within your current environment first. Only when this is not feasible should you consider moving to a new company.
