Hi all.
Okey dokey, time for my 40th reunion.
California in the 60's. This is pre psychedelic -pre drugs...so no groovy or flower power stuff.
beach, crusin, football games, sock hops, big hair, cars, rock n' roll of course.
I'm on the committee again, why I do this I'm never sure but anyway....anybody got some ideas for small inexpensive centerpieces, etc.?
I'm ok with some labor. I know to keep it affordable I'll be doing some work.

Here is an idea that I heard of that I thought was cleaver. Take old photos of classmates (or things that were common back then) and make color copies of them. Black and white photos would be okay too but I am not sure if you would want regular copies or still color copies.

Cut these out and glue them all over a box. This could be either small boxco type box or even just a small gift box. Overlap the photos if you are using a plain box but you could also use a box in school colors and let the color show between the photos.

Use this as a base to drop some helium balloons on a weight into and dress (add froo-froo) from there.

This would also be good for a family reunion or an anniversary party with old photos of the family/couple.

Thanks Wanda, I've got an extra set of the photos already. I'll just print some pics of the other era items to add to them. I have boxcos in my school colors. This will be perfect.
Thanks again!

Wow, Tere, my 40th is coming up next month too. Our class had 1100+ students and the same ones show up every time. This time I'm not going but have loads of fun at yours!

P.S. I love Wanda's idea. :-)

I was thinking about this and realized that the best way to do it if you don't want the color of the box showing through would be to figure out how large of a piece of paper you would need to wrap the whole box and make one master template (a photo collage), if possible, and then make copies of that rather than hand gluing photos onto all of the boxes. Then the boxes could be wrapped in this papaer that had all the photos on it. If there were a lot of centerpieces to be made, this would cut down on the work, I think.

Hi Wanda, I've solid sheet wrapped many times but you're idea put's a novel spin on it. Thanks so much. I do love my Boxco's and Gables! I think I'll just use the photos of the people I really like ; ). Interestingly, well interestingly to me I got an order this week, from one of my holiday corp. client's for 75 gables for a tailgate lunch in September. Women attending a seminar and the company wants boxed lunches. I'm getting more into this borderline catering thing this year. Anyway I took a sales and marketing folder of this company, copied a portion of the front onto card stock and I'm slapping that on the front of the gables. There's just no end to what you can do with these little beauties. Took the company name and tag line, printed that pretty small onto regular print paper and cut it in narrow bands to wrap around the napkin and silverware. Pretty darn cute. The main course will be chef salads which won't go in the gables but fruit, chips and dessert will. This is just right up my alley!

Hey Pam, why aren't you goin' to your reunion? Is that too personal a question? I'll have a good time, I always do. We have a much smaller class only 400. But we have a beach party every year and then a "reunion" every 5. Ok, here's really why I'm on the committee. The beautiful boys, you know the ones I'm talking about, were 2 and 3 years ahead of me. Since I'm on the committee, I get to "suggest" we invite the 3 years ahead of us too. It makes for a most enjoyable evening.
Thanks again Wanda.

Tere, our reunions started off great with a beach party, dinner at night, picnic on Sunday but now it's just a dinner dance. We've found it easier to leave spouses behind (husbands go to a Padres game instead) because none of them grew up here. Each time we have a reunion I vasicilate back and forth about going. And since I've been married to the same guy for 36 years, not terribly interested in meeting other men. :-) Still may change my mind, who knows. But hope you have a great time and meet plently of those cute boys!!!

Hey Pam,
I graduated from Monte Vista. I didn't realize that you were a local gal. That is exactly what we do for our reunions. What was your Alma Mater?

LOL Pam,
>>>>not terribly interested in meeting other men.
Well, me either. I just like looking at them..... I don't want one. ; )
I'm having so much fun with this. I'm doing an 8' long memorabilia table divided "visually" by beach, surfin (not the same thing of course), cruisin', sports, proms, sock hops and all the other dances in between, sports, academics, music and so on. I had my heart set on a Pee Chee folder for the academic section. I don't know about you all but in general when I get set on something I'll go to just about any length to get it. I had to go to 13 stores before I found a Pee Chee. Geesh. Got my cruisin usa little cars, Oh my gosh they're adorable. Got the candy jar all taken care of...thanks to you all,
So I'm draggin' around my pee chee to kinda wear it out a bit. Still have to doodle and put a heart with me and Joe Littizette's initials in it. : ). I know I'm over the top but I love a party and...I had the best childhood and teen years imaginable. I was a dancer on the dance shows and had the time of my life. Wouldn't trade that time for all the world.
You guys really got me kick started and I so appreciate it.

Ok, I'm still messing around with the reunion in the midst of holiday gifts/catering... but here's one of my 2 tables.
Hope you approve. How cute is the crusin USA chevy?? I love that little thing!
