Today I had to put our beloved Boston Terrier (AMY) to sleep. She was almost 12 years old. She went paralyzed from some back problems she had been having the past 5 months.

My husband was out of town so I stayed with her till the end. I will miss her so much. She was my shadow.

Oh Eileen, my heart goes out to you. I know the love you can have for a dog. We have a Golden Retriever who is my shadow. He's never more than 10 feet from me at all times. I cry when I even think of the day when he won't be with us any more. I will pray for your heavy heart.

Becky
Here is a poem I use.

Beyond Life's Gateway where
all beloved pets will go,
With our loving Memories,
in our Hearts and our Souls.
That's beyond all bridges
and rainbows you know,
When a journey through time,
never seems to go slow.
 The stories we shared
and the candles we light,
Those signs of comfort
and dreams are so bright.
In Memory Of Pets
where we all do care,
Where expressing of Feelings
and Love we do share.
Reflections in Time
and the path we will meet,
Beyond Life's Gateway
where a new life we shall seek.

Eileen, So very sorry to hear your news. I had a schnauzer/poodle mix - Katie - that had been with me through college and moving to Fl and the fertility nightmare. She passed away a few weeks after Jack was born. Almost like her work here was done. It is/was heartbreaking. Even now five years later I still sometimes think I hear the light speed clikity clack of her nails on the wood floors.

Tons of love and huge hugs, LM

Thank you all, I keep expecting to look down at my feet and see her. She loved to lay right next to me where ever I was sitting.

Becky, thank you for the poem. It means alot.

Eileen,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved doggie. I know how you feel about losing a pet. It is definitely like they're a part of the family, and they do feel like they're people, too. We also feel they're just like people. It hurts a lot when they pass.

I know your pain.

Take care, and also sending love and big hugs,
Sherrill

Elaine, I know how much you'll miss her. When I lost my Akita, "Trucker", the only thing that consoled me was knowing I'd been the best master he could have had. He literally was my body guard because we lived in such a remote area and it was just me and my kids. He always slept at the threshold of my bedroom door.
I'll tell a sweet story.
I had lots of animals, being in the country. My mama cat birthed a litter and so I set up the "maids room" as a nursery for her and her babies. She'd go outside and come back inside during the day. One morning early I packed up the kids and headed for Disneyland. I didn't know "Lola", the mama cat, had gone out and not come back in. So mama is out, we're gone and Trucker is in the house, with 4 kittens (alfalfa, buckwheat, darla, and spanky) When we got home late that night, he was lying next to the litter box of the kittens with his paw draped over them trying to comfort them. It was the sweetest thing. Poor little kittens. I think he would have nursed them if it were possible.
He was so precious.
I'm sure you feel the same way about Amy.
I'm so sorry you lost her. It's just so hard to be without them when they have been your shadow.
Hugs.
Tere
