Hi Everyone, I am new here and just trying to get into the business. I have checked out many online gift basket websites and am amazed at the pictures they have of their baskets. The kind I want to have for mine have the really cool backgrounds in them, such as a nursery background for a new baby basket etc. It looks like they have taken the picture of the basket and then used some kind of software to paste it onto the background. Does anyone know how they do this or what software they use. This is holding me up in starting a business since I want to have the pictures done for a portfolio and a brochure. Diana |

Hi Diana, I don't know exactly how the pictures you are talking about are done. I have a feeling you are talking about pictures from large companies, and they may just have created the settings for their pictures. But, you can also do these pictures with the help of the adobe program. It's expensive, and has a learning curve, so it may be easier to hire a graphic designer to help you with that. I hope that helps. Adriana Copaceanu - Board Administrator Gift Basket Exchange

Yeah, I'm not sure how they get the pictures like that but I have seen some people selling baskets on e-bay that have the same look to them. I think I might have to look into adobe but thought I would check here first. Thanks! |

Some may disagree, but I would not waste too much time on a lot of that pretty background work, unless you are selling the wallpaper, props and such. It can be fun and pretty to do all that, kind of like spending 3 weeks designing your business card, but in the end it doesn't sell (from experience over the years). Those of us that have been in business many years have probably gone through phases like that and can share our experiences. If you look at the big professional gift companies like Harry & David, red envelope and many others you will see that they will have an artsy photo or two up front to get your attention but when it gets to the actual selling it is all about the product you are trying to sell. Artsy photos set the tone, but don't sell a specific product, if that makes sense. Photoshop will do what you want, but costs several hundred dollars, plus the digital camera, plus the learning curve. Been there, done that, wish I had that time/money back. |

Even if you have Photoshop it is very time consuming as Cookie_guy said, to create pictures like that, that really look good. For my pages I use white background, I cut the baskets out which makes that clear look I prefer. The best thing to do is to use a good digital camera. I just bought a new one, that had much better functions than my old one, but at the end I sent it back because of the quality of the pictures. (Now I love my old Kodak again ,-) If you want backgrounds, why not use wallpapers, they are not too expensive and it won't take to much time once you found the perfect light and set up. |
