Hey, Guys
I've spent almost all morning on this website, reading through all the postings and gleaning great info from the archives. There's so much here. I'm taking notes all over the place.

One in particular caught my attention, and I'm hoping that someone in the forum can give me more info.

Has anyone here ever used BNI before? Can you explain to me in layman's terms how it works? The website is good, but I still have some questions about the cost, the frequency of the meetings and the times for those.

Also, if you've used it before, did it really work to boost your sales? What was your experience with them, and what kind of accounts did they net you?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Nicole:

I recently joined BNI and I have discovered that there is a need for the Gift Basket Industry. In BNI only one profession can be represented. There is always a need for a gift baskets and since I joined in January of this year, almost every meeting that I have attended on a Wednesday morning at 7:00 a.m., I receive an order. Very few chapters in my area has a gift basket designer so when I joined, I received a very warm welcome. It's all about referrals and if you can impress your local chapter members, then they will not hesitate to recommend you to their friends, business associates, etc. There is an activity that is called "Dance Card". How it works is that you make a date with individual members of the group, ie., outside of the regular meetings. You meet with them or they with you and this allows for both parties to get to know each other and an opportunity to understand exactly the nature of each business. BNI is all about networking! Membership is 420 annually plus $32.00 each month for breakfast. I believe the amount for breakfast varies depending on where your meeting is being held. My chapter meets at a diner. I trust I was able to answer your questions. Please feel free to contact me at mmgiftbasket@yahoo.com if you need more info. Thanks

The problem that I had with BNI is being home-based, I would have a hard time bringing in referrals. I am the Exec. Sec. of my local Chamber and seldom do I bring referrals to my LEAD$ group. I do other things that go above and beyond the call of membership (such as providing gifts for door prizes, offering to assemble gifts for other members who participate in a special Chinese Auctions, etc.) How do you BNI-ers conjure up referrals for your BNI groups? I've heard that under the pressure of having to provide referrals, oftimes they are "bogus" just to meet the requirement. I'd like to hear the real story. Thanks

I've been invited to a visitor's day at BNI. I have the same question/concern as Pat. How many referrals is a member required to give? How much time a month do you invest in addition to weekly meetings for dance cards and so on?
Thanks.

I'd be very interested to know how that visitor's day went, and what you thought of BNI. Can you tell me about it after you attend? Thanks much!
