Team -

A web hosting customer sent me a question today to tip us off to this new fraud trend. Many of you may have already received domain renewal notices in the mail from "Domain Registry of America" asking you to renew your domain. They took advantage of thousands with this letter and tricked them with this letter. What would happen is you would send in your payment and they would transfer your domain from whoever you actually registered it with and claim that you transferred it them.

NOW, they are sending out emails that look very official as if you or someone was attempting to transfer your account They give you a link which basically brings you to their site and confirms you want them to take over your domain registrar (i.e. like network solutions or godaddy).

Bottom line, if you get a letter or email from "Domain Registry of America" and you are not sure who they are, chances are they are attempting to trick you. Delete the email or trash the letter. Be sure you know when your domain registers and through who!

CONTINUED IN NEXT POST.

Hello YOUR NAME,

The transfer and renewal of your domain name, YOURDOMAIN.com is not possible at this time because your domain name is currently in a "REGISTRAR-LOCK" status with your current registrar DSTR ACQUISITION I, LLC In order to complete the transfer and renewal the "REGISTRAR-LOCK" status needs to be removed. Please see below for instructions on achieving this.

Solution:

- Alternatively you may call your current registrar, DSTR ACQUISITION I, LLC (see phone number below) and ask them to remove the lock status of your domain name and allow the transfer to Domain Registry of America.

- Once done please notify us that you have done so, by clicking on the link below, or calling our toll-free number below.

I get these letters all the time for my domains.
I knew they weren't who I signed up with originally (000domains.com), so I just trashed them. Glad I did! :-) ~k
