I noticed for some time now, that except for my 3 or 4 main keyword phrases, I've all but disappeared from Google.

I thought of a couple possible reasons, but recently noticed that I am no longer listed in DMOZ. I have no idea why & I have tried to email the editor of the gift basket category and have resubmitted several times, but nothing.

Anyone else run into this?

I've disappeared from Google and have been gone for almost 2.5 months...I mean, I've fallen to #500+ for search terms I've been #1 for for over two years, and I have no idea why.

I have heard of it happening to a few others; however, not all at the same time (i.e. when I was up, they were down, now vice versa.)

Google sucks - not that I had all my eggs in one basket, but Google was the biggest basket, so now sales are down 25-40%, depending on the type of basket we're talking about. Therefore, I'm dreading the holiday season as I have no idea what to expect as far as sales go. Guess I'll have to start cold calling (which I despise LOL)

I know what you mean Gail. My sales are way down. It seems like even more traffic from MSN or Yahoo doesn't matter. I get most sales through Google. Now, I'm spending more money on advertising instead. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll make another change that will actually help us before the holidays!

Joyce can you explain what a source code is and where to find it, for those of us who are not computer savy this would be a big help. I just had my website optimized and restructured and it would be nice to know these things for future refrence
Thanks A Bunch!

Actually, I have two websites and the old one that's in frames hasn't been affected and has actually gone up. The newer one without frames is the one that died...(??)

My positive spin on this is that the Lord only gives you as much as you can handle, and it's been an extremely busy (and, recently, crappy) summer for me, so actually the break has been a bit of a relief. Still....LOL

Deborah - to view your source code, click on "view" then "source" at the top of the browser if you're using Internet Explorer. All of your HTML (or whatever language your site is done in) will show up there in a notepad file...however, if you don't understand HTML it will still be greek to you, but to answer your question that's where you can view your code.

Joyce, how is your husband doing? I remember you saying something about going to California for some type of medical treatment. Hope he is doing well.

I am like everyone else. Seems that my traffic has fallen off tremendously lately. I was just beginning to place fairly well on Google, so that is really bad with the holiday's coming.
I don't know anything about frames, but have worked really hard on optimizing my site. It seemed to be paying off there for a while.

Blessings to all,
Marie

Thank you for replying Joyce. I have the same set up I've always had - don't know if this has frames or not. www.basketstar.com. Everything that was working so well before to optimize seems to not matter now. From what I read, I though maybe getting more links would help but that has not. So, I am at a loss.

Glad your husband is well Joyce.

I had written a bunch of blogs and articles that got me a lot of traffic, but I was thinking the same thing about duplicate content or sites from the same ISP, so I deleted a lot recently. Of course, other people have copied the content all over the place. Don't know if that was part of it. I have never listed all the states - although I see a lot of sites on top who do. I do have only relevant links & I've tried to add some more.

It is very frustrating. My thought was that somehow I got kicked out of DMOZ which is what effected my page position in Google. I don't know. I am not banned - I still come up for my main keyword phrases - but only for the main 2 or 3. Also, even though my page position dropped for a lot of words, my Page Rank number actually went up for a lot of my pages after all the Google Changes

Who knows? I just keep reading. What really irritates me, is when I search for stuff in Google, it seems like most of the results now are these pages used solely for advertising that have a lot of useless junk on them.

My understanding is that DMOZ is dropping sites with any drop ship baskets on them according to what I have been told and are listing sites with original content only.
Also, had heard that a lot about whether you are listed or not depends on the editor and what business they are in. (Not sure of the validity of this one, but heard it through the grapevine)

Thanks Carol. That could be. I switched to all dropshipping when I got my new job.
